Tierra del Fuego

We already approach to the five centuries in that a group of brave adventurers of the Old World discovered the costs of an unknown land. Many fires, here and there, columns of smoke, seemed to float on the waters under the fog of the dawns. An entire mystic scene for our adventurers that, soon after this, called the island; Tierra del Fuego.
Adventure, emotion, history and legend is what has our beloved Tierra del Fuego. Discover everything this island has to offer you. See by your self our southern fires and let your imagination fly.

Our province of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and Islands of the South Atlantic, the most extense of Argentina, is formed by the Oriental side of the Big Island of Tierra del Fuego, and comprises, besides the Argentine Antarctic sector, the Falkland Islands, Georgias, Sandwich, Orcadas, Isla de los Estados and some other smaller islands.

To arrive in Tierra del Fuego we have three different ways: aerial, maritime and terrestrial. But only the aerial is the one used massively because of our insular condition.

          · The airlines allow a flowing and continuous connection between Tierra del Fuego and Buenos Aires and the most important tourist destinations in our country.
But unfortunatelly, there are monopolistic aerial problems because the most important airline restricts in an excesive quantity the amount of flights to our province obstructing the touristic growth, very necesary for the economic welfare of the province and of the ones living in it. Ushuaia, the capital of the province, counts with an International Airport to which numerous contingents of Argentinean tourists and foreigners arrive during each season. It is also possible to arrive to the Airport of the city of Rio Grande, by the way more lacking flights that Ushuaia. We have faith that this situation will be reverted in short term.

          · If we speak about the maritime way, our city possess a very important touristic and trading port considered as The Gate to the Antarctica. Where big fishing ships and great tourist cruises converge. This year, 2006, we had the visit in two oportunites of the biggest transatlantic in the world, the Queen Mary 2.

          · The terrestrial way is truly beautiful, we can acces the island trough the National Route Nº3 until Santa Cruz province. Then we cross the Southern Integration frontier line, where we’ll have to do the corresponding customs procedure. We continue to travel along Chilean routes until we get to the Magellan Strait where we’ll cross to get to the island of Tierra del Fuego, leaving this way the continental sector. Once we have arrived to the Island, we recapture Chilean routes until San Sebastian's frontier line, and then we enter to the Argentinean sector for the National Route Nº 3 straight to the main cities of the province.

The National Service of Sanity and Quality Food and Agriculture (SE.NA.S.A.) controls the animal and vegetable sanity and that of the products and sub-products of animal and vegetable origin. So keep in mind that there are a series of foods and vegetables that we cannot transport neither to enter.

As it happens in the provinces of Chubut and Santa Cruz, Tierra del Fuego is an area free of Fever Aftosa and Fly of the Fruits. We have the duty of continuing protecting it. Homemade products, fruits, vegetables, cheeses, meat (bobine, pork meat, etc) and their derived (sausages, cold cuts, etc.) represent a danger for our Sanitary Status, that is the reason why SE.NA.S.A. prohibits their entrance in the baggage or handbag of the passenger. If you bring these products, SE.NA.S.A. is forced to confiscate them and to denaturalize them. Collaborate facilitating the control of your baggage and handbag.
